Welcome to the Rio Grande Area! We are students and staff in the state of New Mexico and El Paso, TX. Currently there are about 150 students participating in six InterVarsity chapters on five campuses throughout our area. Three of our student groups are made up of mostly Native American students and one of our chapters is made up mostly of Latino students. The vision of InterVarsity is to see students and faculty transformed, campuses renewed and world-changers developed. Our area’s unique take on that vision is to form a diverse community of students into lifelong missionaries. We believe that through the on-going witness of devoted Jesus-followers who also happen to be college students, the kingdom of the university can become the kingdom of our God.
Some of our campus activities in the Rio Area include: manuscript Bible study in the gospels, large group fellowship times for worship and teaching, outreach tables and conversational witness, prayer walks and weekly prayer gatherings, service projects and social events. We also have a retreat in the fall called The Great Escape and a training conference in the spring called Spring Training. We recently launched a Spring Break urban project called the Albuquerque Urban Plunge.
Currently we are active at the University of Texas—El Paso, New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (Socorro), the University of New Mexico—Albuquerque, the University of New Mexico—Gallup and the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute. If you are interested in getting involved in one of these groups, or if you would like information on starting InterVarsity on another campus in the Rio Area, please contact
